ABOUT THE SERVICE

The assessment process includes a number of face-to-face appointments with the psychologist, such as:

  • Intake interview, with parent(s) of the child undergoing the assessment or self-referred adult undergoing the assessment;

  • School-based interview with teacher/learning team;

  • Two to four one-on-one testing sessions, with the individual undergoing the assessment (e.g., to gain a holistic understanding of cognitive/intellectual abilities, academic performance, social, emotional, and behavioural functioning, etc.,);

  • Feedback meeting, with parent(s) or self-referred adult, to go over the following: results of the assessment, diagnostic conclusions (and diagnoses, if any), review of the draft assessment report, and recommendations (finalized report emailed to parents or self-referred adult approximately one to two weeks following feedback meeting)

Psychoeducational Assessment

A Psychoeducational (psych-ed) Assessment is used to gain a comprehensive understanding of an individual’s strengths and areas of need across a variety of domains and contexts, such as educational (e.g. school, college/university), occupational, home/familial, individual, and social.

Psych-ed assessments are commonly sought to address queries related to Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Anxiety, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Giftedness, and Learning Disorders (e.g. reading, writing, mathematics), among others.

Individuals of varying ages may benefit from a psych-ed assessment to assist with leveraging strengths and gaining greater insight into particular areas of need – including pragmatic recommendations tailored to the individual and the contexts most relevant to their learning, growth, and development.
