LAUREN KOTYLAK

Lauren is a Registered Psychologist and Mediator. She completed her undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Alberta and finished her Masters of Counselling degree at the University of Calgary. In between degrees, she co-authored a book chapter with Dr. Nancy Galambos on parent-child relationships and how they change over the lifespan. She is currently a member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, the College of Alberta Psychologists and the Canadian Psychological Association.

Prior to joining Fong Ailon, Lauren spent over 8 years working in the social services field with families and children struggling with co-parenting, addiction, domestic violence, and generational trauma. She has extensive experience working as a parenting coach and recently completed a counselling practicum at a highly esteemed private school catered towards youth with learning disabilities.

Lauren has experience working with a variety of client challenges including family conflict, anxiety, attachment wounds, complex trauma, depression, anxiety, ADD/ADHD, etc. In addition, she has extensive therapeutic skills geared towards helping families navigate through challenges such as separation, divorce and co-parenting.

She draws on several therapeutic frameworks including attachment, mindfulness, narrative, interpersonal neurobiology, EMDR, and somatic interventions. In her work with younger children, Lauren uses a combination of cognitive-behavioral and narrative therapy along with play in therapy. She has a strong interest in attachment wounds and developmental trauma. Lauren has training in EMDR and recently completed Systemic-Attachment Informed EMDR therapy for parents and children. Lauren’s clinical approach is holistic, client-centered and rests on the assumption that clients are the experts in their own lives.


Alongside her therapy practice, Lauren offers a variety of mediation services and interventions under Practice Note 7.
